CLIFTON PARK–State Police are conducting an investigation in Clifton Park where an individual claimed to be a representative of the Water Management Department and an unsuspecting homeowner allowed him entry to her residence which was later burglarized when she was not at home.

Troopers responded Tuesday to a not in progress burglary complaint on State Route 146 in Clifton Park and interviewed the elderly homeowner who stated that at approximately 10 a.m.,  a man came to the back door of her residence and stated he was with the Water Management Department and needed to flush her water as it might be contaminated.

The individual is described as a white male, possibly of Italian or Cuban descent, approximately 5’7”, slim, with a beard. He was wearing blue jeans and a light colored jacket along with a dark colored baseball hat. He also wore a picture ID around his neck and carried a into which he spoke.

The individual was in the home with the homeowner for approximately 45 minutes and during that time he did in fact run each faucet and flush toilets. He was not however, watched at all times by the homeowner, police said. Shortly after the individual left, the homeowner departed her residence and upon returning some time later discovered that someone had entered the residence and jewelry had been stolen.

State police have confirmed with the town Water Authority that no town employee with their department was at the homeowner’s residence during the time of the incident.

Police are searching for an older model, navy blue pick up truck with yellow lettering on the doors with the word “Water” possibly in the lettering scheme. This truck was seen in the area of the incident and had two occupants with one knocking on a house door and another remaining at the truck.

Anyone with information or who has seen this truck or the individual described earlier or had a similar situation of someone claiming to be with the Water Management Department in theCliftonParkarea is asked to call the State Police inCliftonParkat 518-383-8583 or the 24 hour dispatch line at 518-583-7000.  2-15-12
